COOK INLET SPORTFISHING CAUCUS
"Our Guiding Principals"
CISC is a brotherhood of three members who have banded together with one goal in mind:
To support and promote sportfishing in the waters of Cook Inlet.
Phil Cutler from Anchorage, Bruce Knowles from Mat-Su Valley and Bob Penney from the
Kenai Peninsula
are experienced anglers who have been members of CISC for over 25 years.
From each south central geographic location, they have kept in continued contact as to issues affecting sportfishing in these areas.
Some of the main issues of concern are:
- To monitor and try to see that management plans are adhered to so that adequate spawning escapement is made for each species of anadramous salmon that live in the waters of Cook Inlet. This is our No. 1 item of concern – our ‘Holy Grail’.
Always remember: "The fish come first.”
- Through the Board of Fisheries and the state legislature, pursue a harvest allocation for the area’s 200,000 plus anglers that improves on the present 80/20% split giving commercial fisheries a harvest four times that of anglers.
- To promote thoughtful sportfishing habits that protect the river streamside habitat and ensure that the spawning beds are not damaged by uninformed sport fishermen.
- To help educate the public on Cook Inlet fishing issues through correspondence, the internet and the media.
- To see that sport angling is fun, puts food on our family tables, and encourages the young generation of new anglers to learn and enjoy this rewarding sport.
We pledge to use our spare time, contacts with officials and financial abilities to accomplish these goals.
